Vintage Glamourous Spirit Sunday

In honor of my first time viewing of Butterfield 8 this evening, here is Elizabeth Taylor in all her glory. Taylor won the Oscar for her performance in the film. Her performance was really great, but overall the film was a bit too depressing for my tastes...

Anahata Katkin - Mixed Media Artist Extraordinaire

fearless, originally uploaded by Anahata Katkin.

I've been loving Anahata's whimsical art for years now. You may recognize her art from seeing her greeting cards in gift shops. I actually have the above greeting card hanging on my inspiration wall above my desk. It's my current favorite as it speaks to what I'm trying to cultivate most in myself these days...plus I'm in love with her warrior stripes!

Anahata blends vintage photos with her intricate doodles, using various ingredients then plays with all of it photoshop. Her work has a otherwordly yet grounded feel to it which I'm really drawn to. She also incorporates a spirituality into her paintings too, using words to encourage and inspire. Anahata's company, Papaya!, was started by her and her mom in 2003 using designs from her art journals and turning them into greeting cards. She's basically who I want to be when I grow up!

Glamourous Summer Reads

4/52, originally uploaded by seaembraces.

Summer makes me want to sprawl out on a big blanket in the park with a juicy book. Here are some books that are on my ever expanding "To Read" list:

Summer at Tiffany- Set in New York City in the 1940's, this memoir-ish novel is about two college girls from Iowa who move to the big city and end up working @ Tiffany & Co. for the summer.

Women, Food, and God- An Oprah pick that piqued my interest when I read an excerpt. Always fascinated by books that probe into the human psyche...

Lunch in Paris: A Love Story, with Recipes- This book was mentioned over at this blog. Sounds right up my alley!

The Sweet Life in Paris- Another Parisian pick, but the cover is just so damned pretty, I can't resist!

The Happiness Project- Born out of an epiphany that "Time is passing, and I'm not focusing enough on the things that really matter", author Gretchen Rubin decides to dedicate a year to happiness.

What's on your Summer read list???

Kindred Spirit

The thing I love the most about the blogging world is how you can stumble upon a blog that instantly clicks with you. A kindred spirit in this blog nation. Today while playing a little game I like to call "Follow the Links", I landed on a lovely little blog called November Grey. First of all, great blog name. Second, she featured a Gwen Stefani video I had actually never seen but is SO beautiful I've just been watching it over and over. I still can't believe how stunning Gwen is as a brunette!! I'm also nursing a serious hankering for a trip to the Coast of Italy, all thanks to this gorgeous video.

Have Courage.

“Self-acceptance comes from meeting life's challenges vigorously. Don't numb yourself to your trials and difficulties, nor build mental walls to exclude pain from your life. You will find peace not by trying to escape your problems, but by confronting them courageously. You will find peace not in denial, but in victory.”

Sex and the Other City

Sarah Jessica Parker, originally uploaded by maariibeel.

I'm getting together tomorrow with my girls for a Sex and The City 2 brunch and movie extravaganza!! We've decided we're all gonna dress up as our favorite character...so I'm going as Carrie. As I assume most of the other girls are going as too! I've always felt like I'm a Charlotte at heart but with Carrie tendencies(and some Samantha ones too!). It's a good mix, I think. I really don't expect the movie to be that great, I'm just excited to see my girls and dress up.

Who would you pick to dress up as?
